Tonari Na Totoro!
Play the vid! Cute Song! Reminded me of a childhood i think i had. the playful carefree kind. haha Don't really recall my childhood much. BTW i was bored. So i wrote a short entry. It was for this so called entry to newspaper but mine was too long... lazy to edit it. kinda shitty. mistakes here and there...lol i don't really get grammar anymore. First woman minister: at last. Does this signal to youths (you) that Singapore has finally arrived in terms of gender equality? Why or why not? Or is there another way of looking at it? Congratulations are in order for Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, on the appointment of Singapore’s soon to be first woman minister. This is definitely a step forward in seeing more female leaders on top of the political arena where it is customarily dominated by men. Because the fact that the cabinet is still essentially run by men, one may argue that gender equality has yet to peak in any significance in our island. But I beg to differ. Achieving gender equality does not necessarily equate to having a female figure governing our country. World bodies define gender equality as ‘leveling the playing field for girls and women by ensuring that all children have equal opportunity to develop their talents. The key factor that deter the likelihood of seeing more female leaders in various areas of expertise is religion. Religion has clearly defined the roles of men and women, subsequently impairing the rights of women to advance and develop to secure any presence. But Singapore has gradually crossed the barrier to allow rights to women; allowing them to progress and establish themselves to be among the ‘top-dogs’. Singapore policy that allows peaceful integration of different religions subsequently made her a faceless nation; one that is not bound by a religion that separates gender roles. I personally feel that Singapore have made herself a gender equal status where women are allowed to achieve as much as their male counterpart, but it is up to them to get the opportunities to harness their potential that is rightfully theirs. dots. |
